2008-2009 Student Scholarships

Thank you for inquiring about the Alumni Associations Scholarship opportunities. Applications for the 2008-2009 academic year are now available.

The University of Connecticut Alumni Association is proud to announce that it will be awarding student scholarships for the 33rd consecutive year. The Association offers both general scholarships, which are open to all students who meet the minimum criteria, and Legacy scholarships for those who are considered UConn “Legacies”.

The scholarships are supported by generous alumni contributions and many are named in memory of distinguished alumni of the University.

  1. Complete the application form on-line (The online PDF form allows you to type in your responses so you do not need to use a typewriter. All applications must be TYPED!)
  2. Print out application, sign and date. (REMEMBER TO PROOFREAD)
  3. Submit:
    • One current (within the last year) letter of recommendation from a community service activity, extra-curricular activity or employment describing your character, level of involvement, etc. (please do not send more than one letter). Recommendations must be delivered or mailed by the person writing the recommendation. The deadline date for the recommendation is the same as the application deadline, Friday, February 1, 2008.
    • Application and letters of recommendation can be mailed to The University of Connecticut Alumni Association, Alumni Drive, Unit 3053, Storrs, CT 06269-3053, ATTN: Scholarships. Please do not fax applications, they will be disqualified. If you are on the Storrs Campus, you may hand deliver the application to the Alumni Center.

DEADLINE: February 1, 2008 BY 5:00 PM

Notification will be mailed to your home address on March 17, 2008. A ceremony to celebrate the recipients will be held in October 2008. The date, time and location of the ceremony will be announced once all scholarship recipients have been identified.


UCAA Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

Current UConn Students
All current*, University of Connecticut undergraduates (freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors) who will be a full-time** students in the 2008 - 2009 academic year. This includes students from all UConn campuses.

* High school seniors are not considered current students and are not eligible for this scholarship.

**Full time as defined by the University of Connecticut is an undergraduate student registered for at least 12 semester hours and a graduate student registered for at least 6 semester hours.

UConn Seniors
You must be applying (or have been accepted) for full-time, first year graduate studies at UConn for the 2008-2009 academic year. If you have not received notification of your admission status to UConn graduate school, you are still encouraged to apply.

The evaluation of scholarship applicants is based on the following:

  • Responses to short essay question
  • One current letter of recommendation
  • Academic performance (students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher to apply)
  • Financial need

Types of Scholarships

General Scholarships
No additional specified criteria. All applicants who meet the minimum criteria will be considered for these awards.

Legacy Scholarships
In addition to the eligibility requirements listed above, the applicant’s parent,
grandparent or a sibling must be a UConn alum and a current dues paying member of the UConn Alumni Association. (Refer to question #10 on the application)

PLEASE TAKE NOTE
RECIPIENTS MUST ATTEND THE SCHOLARSHIP RECEPTION AT A STORRS CAMPUS LOCATION IN OCTOBER 2008 (Date & Time TBA) TO RECEIVE THE SCHOLARSHIP. ATTENDANCE AT THE CEREMONY IS CONSIDERED FORMAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP. IF THE RECIPIENT DOES NOT ATTEND THE CEREMONY, THE SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE FORFEITED.
