The UConn Alumni Association has established a program designed to reconnect those with shared UConn experiences so they may network, socialize and support their alma mater. Definition: Any current or former student organization or group of individuals who share a common connection or campus experience and who desire to affiliate with each other through the parent Alumni Association are eligible to petition the University of Connecticut Alumni Association for group status. Alumni Groups sponsor social and networking activities, lifelong learning and continuing education, and outreach to students/young alumni.

Groups affiliating with the Alumni Association fall into one of five classifications based on their level of activity and organization. (Freshman for start-up, through graduate level for the most well-established groups.)

Why Should Your Group Affiliate with the Alumni Association?

The Alumni Association has established a standardized way of supporting alumni groups in order to:

  • Provide financial support based on programmatic need
  • Recognize strong volunteer leadership which consistently offers a variety of high quality programs to alumni
  • Create a mechanism to enable groups with limited resources to affiliate and receive support from the Alumni Association
  • Establish a standardized process for activity planning and budgeting
  • Encourage groups to supplement Alumni Association financial and in-kind support with revenue raised through the groups events and programs

What Does the Alumni Association Provide to Affiliated Groups?

  • Funding according to group level, programmatic needs and scope/level of activities
  • In-kind services including but not limited to:
    • Staff liaison to assist with planning and communication
    • Promotion of group activities including Alumni Association website, events calendar, blast e-mails.
    • On-line services through the Alumni Association website
    • Scholarship program administration
    • Membership recruitment materials and mailings
    • Centralized event registration
    • Accounts receivable/payable services
    • Financial accounting and reporting/tax exemption/liability insurance
    • Use of the Alumni Center at no charge for group meetings and events
    • Reunion planning and event support materials, name tags, decorations, etc.

What Does the Alumni Association Expect From an Affiliated Group?

  • Acceptance and compliance with standardized Chapter By-Laws
  • Compliance with the Alumni Association membership dues structure
  • Identified volunteer leadership who maintain membership in the Alumni Association
  • Separate event pricing for Alumni Association members and non-members
  • Alumni review and approval of expenditures
  • Submission of annual budget and activity reports
  • Promotion of Alumni Association membership at events and activities through publications and event mailings.
