Summer, 2008
Dear Member of the Neag School
of Education Alumni Society:
Our Society has enjoyed another
exciting and productive year. The Tenth
Annual Alumni Awards Dinner was attended by 200 alumni and friends who came
together to honor nine outstanding individuals.
We also held our Eighth Annual Golf Tournament and raised enough funds
to sponsor two $1000 scholarships and donate $2500 to the Neag School Building
Fund. We co-sponsored a UConn Men’s Game
Watch at Foxwoods with the Indiana Alumni Association and continued two
mentoring programs: Adopt a Graduate Student and the Leadership Academy for Fifth Year IBM
students and members of the Neag Graduate Student Association. Our Annual
Meeting was held in November and we participated in Homecoming festivities,
Honors Day, Alumni Weekend and the second annual independent Neag School
Commencement ceremony. We also sponsored a Graduate Student Orientation and an
ice skating party at the UConn Ice Rink.
This letter asks you to mark
your calendars for the upcoming events listed below, to join the Husky Alumni
Network and to nominate fellow Neag alumni to serve on the Board of Governors
of our Alumni Society.
The Annual Neag School of Education Golf Tournament.
The Alumni Society is looking for
a volunteer to organize our golf tournament at Shennecossett in Groton, CT.
Larry Fenn worked on it for eight years, but is unable to organize it again
this year. It would be held on Sunday, October
5, 2008. If you are interested in
organizing this fund-raising event, please contact Lynne Allen (

The Annual Meeting
Our Annual Meeting will be held on Monday, November 3, 2008 in the Alumni Hall of the Gentry Building. We will
be asking a few faculty members to present some of their research interests to
us. Refreshments will be served at 5:00 p.m. followed by the faculty
presentation and Annual Meeting. All Alumni Society members are invited to
attend and tour the beautiful new addition completed in May, 2004.
Husky Alumni Network
We also
invite all members to join the Online
Community and become a mentor for fellow alumni. You can register at UConnAlumni.com.
The Eleventh Annual Awards Dinner
Our Eleventh Annual Awards
Dinner will be held on Saturday, May 16,
2009 at the South Campus Ballroom.
Forms to nominate fellow alumni for one or more of the seven prestigious
awards can be found on our website on UConnAlumni.com and will be mailed to Society members in the
fall. Please participate by nominating a
colleague or friend who is making an outstanding contribution to education
through his/her work. The society has
noticed a recent decline in the number of nominations – don’t hesitate to
nominate a graduate!
Board Member Nomination Information
The Board also encourages you to
nominate potential Alumni Society Board members. These candidates should be willing to provide
leadership and service to the Neag School of Education and its alumni through
work on the Board (see enclosed Nomination Form). It would be most helpful if you discussed the
nomination with the candidate. Once we
receive your completed nomination form by Friday, September 5, 2008, we will create a ballot and ask the membership
to vote by mail. Please consider
nominating an individual who you believe will promote the growth and
development of the Society. Self
nominations are very welcome. For your information, a job description and a
listing of the current Board is included in this mailing.
Questions about any event or
about the nomination process can be directed to Lynne Allen, our Alumni
Coordinator, at (860) 486-2240, (888) UC-ALUM-1, or
