Position Description

A member of the Neag School of Education Alumni Society Board of Governors is elected (or in some cases appointed) to hold this position based upon demonstrated involvement, support and commitment to the University of Connecticut, the UConn Alumni Association and the Neag School of Education.

In accepting the position, an individual agrees to fulfill the requirements and meet the following responsibilities associated with Board membership. Board members are expected to:

  1. Attend official Society Board meetings.
  2. Serve actively on at least one committee.
  3. Attend the Annual Meeting of the Society.
  4. Attempt to participate in other activities supported or sponsored by the Society, including, but not limited to
    • On- and off- campus special events
    • Other Alumni Association sponsored events
  5. Actively recruit members to the Alumni Association/ Society
  6. Become a representative and spokesperson in their community for the University of Connecticut, the Alumni Association and the Neag School of Education. This may involve talking with prospective students, meeting with other alumni, communicating with area legislators and attending local alumni events. Board members should also help identify potential new board members who can serve as successors at the end of their term.
  7. Be a current dues-paying (or life) member of the Association and an active supporter of the University.
