Dr. Read earned a M.A. in 1991 and a Ph.D. in 1994 from the Neag School in the field of Adult Learning. She was chosen to receive this award because of “her creative use of principles of adult learning to assist corporations strategize, change and innovate to achieve success in the global market” as stated by Dr. Barry Sheckley in his letter of nomination.

Dr. Read’s work focuses on helping companies achieve organizational goals through improved strategic planning, transfer of learning to use in job activities, increased communication, and overall improvements in performance effectiveness. Her coaching interventions have helped to improve customer service through the use of a learning system based on principles of how adults learn best. She has been instrumental in helping companies improve their corporate effectiveness and productivity.

Dr. Read applies key principles of adult learning to demonstrate critical learning tasks as central to successful individual and organizational transformation. Through experience-based consultation she helps professionals connect personal learning with the leadership work of organizational development, strategic planning and operational excellence.

Dr. Read will be recognized as the Outstanding Professional of 2008, at the Annual Awards Dinner of the Neag School of Education on Saturday, May 17th.
