Dr. Mary Monroe Kolek `76,`84,`91,`02 |

Dr. Kolek began her career as a Special Education Teacher and Consultant in 1976. In 1981 she was named Teacher of the Year in South Windsor and was a state level finalist. In 2004 she was named Assistant Superintendent in New Canaan. Her dynamic leadership has helped transform and advance curriculum instruction throughout the district. In honor of her accomplishments Dr. Kolek was named to a new central office position, that of Deputy Superintendent. She is seen as a “quiet mentor” and has had a profound positive impact on principals and other administrators. Her colleague Lisa Wolak states that Mary “inspires educators to reach their potential so that they, in turn, can meaningfully impact the lives of children”.
Dr. Kolek has had many leadership accomplishments in the public schools of Connecticut, professional associations and state commissions. She has demonstrated a sustained commitment and dedication to educational excellence. She understands research trends with special understanding of emerging State and Federal issues that impact learning. Colleagues describe her as visionary and value her ability to recognize leadership skills in promising educators, giving them the experience and skills necessary to help enhance their careers. In staff development she stresses preparing students for 21st Century Learning. The letters of support written on behalf of Mary were outstanding and were a testament to the skills of this exceptional administrator.
