In an effort to recognize the outstanding contributions of our
alumni volunteer groups, the UConn Alumni Association created the
U-Awards . U-Awards are presented annually to geographic groups and
other alumni groups that have distinguished themselves through
exceptional program offerings.

Award Categories
The U-Learn Award
Awarded to the group that organizes the most outstanding career or
life-networking program. These programs include career networking and
professional development programs, life networking opportunities,
and/or lifelong learning/continuing education offerings.
2008 Award Winner School of Nursing Postcards from Reality: Alumni Musings on their First Job
The U-Pride Award
Awarded to the group that organizes the most outstanding social
program. These programs include social gatherings, sports related
events and cultural activities.
2008 Award Winner Greater Hartford Chapter Reception Celebrating the Inauguration of President Hogan
The U-Serve Award
Awarded to the group that organizes the most outstanding community
service program. The U-Serve Award will recognize an outstanding
service program regardless of when it is offered.
2008 Award Winner Southeast Chapter Hurricane! The Ultimate Storm, Lecture by Art Horn
The U-Care Award
Awarded to the group that organizes the most outstanding resource
development and/ or advocacy program. These programs include
scholarships, book awards, Alumni Association membership drives,
fundraising, gift prospecting activities, admissions programs and
legislative advocacy.
2008 Award Winner African American Alumni Council Establishment of a Student Scholarship Fund
Award Criteria: The following criteria are utilized to reward outstanding volunteer group programming:
- Program has a high attendee/member ratio
- Program supports the mission of the Association
- Program results in measurable growth in membership or volunteer participation
- Program utilizes/showcases University resources/talent
- Program is new or unique, or it longevity has contributed to the group’s success
Eligibility: All recognized volunteer groups under the UConn
Alumni Association umbrella are eligible, including recognized
geographic groups, affinity groups and school/college societies.
Nominations: Nominations are solicited from all volunteer
groups under the UConn Alumni Association umbrella. Nominations should
be submitted no later than Monday, May 5, 2008. Submit your nominations
and any supporting materials to U-Awards, attn: Linda Rogers, UConn
Alumni Association, Alumni Drive, Unit 3053, Storrs, CT 06269. All
nominees are strongly encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting on
Saturday, June 6, 2009.
Selecting Body: The Outreach and Programs Committee of the
Alumni Association Board of Directors reviews nominations and selects
the award winners.
Timeline: Nominations are solicited beginning in March and
are due by May 5, 2008. The awards will be presented at our Annual
Meeting on Saturday, June 6, 2009.
Recognition: The winners will be recognized in a display at
the UConn Alumni Center and will be featured in an issue of
MemberExtra, our quarterly publication for Alumni Association members.
