UConn Board of Trustees chairman Lawrence McHugh announced the formation of a committee charged with leading the search for the University's next president. The committee includes trustees, faculty members, student leaders, staff, administrators, alumni, and state and local officials, as well as representatives from the private sector.

| UConn Gets Federal Money to Study PTSD |
|
The UConn Health Center received a $750,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to study the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder on veterans. The research will focus on the efficiency of two methods of PTSD treatment and aim to help those who suffer with anger, irritability and sleep difficulties.

| UConn Helps Map Pequot War Battlefields |

UConn is participating in a project that will map the battlefields of the Pequot War of 1636, a confrontation that helped shape early American history. In a joint venture with the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center at Foxwoods, Kevin McBride, UConn anthropology professor and research director of the Pequot museum, hopes to find some amazing new things in a quiet Mystic neighborhood.

| Four Stem Cell Lines Approved for Use in Federally Funded Research |
|
UConn scientists have four human embryonic stem cell lines that have been added to the National Stem Cell Registry; the first from a Connecticut institution to receive federal approval. The four UConn stem cell lines were derived in the UConn Health Center's Stem Cell Core Laboratory using public funds provided by the State of Connecticut and its stem cell initiative.

Former UConn Start-up IMCORP, a leading provider of underground power cable reliability enhancement solutions, was named one of the top 25 fastest growing engineering companies in the country due to its triple digit business growth. Started in the late 90's under an exclusive license from the University for a patented technology developed by Professor Emeritus Matthew S. Mashikian, the company incubated on campus for several years and recently graduated and moved to industrial space in Manchester that will allow for its continued expansion.

| UConn Alum Dan Lauria to Portray Vince Lombardi on Broadway |
|
UConn alum Dan Lauria, best known as the straight-arrow Dad in TV's "The Wonder Years," is playing legendary Green Bay Packers football coach Vince Lombardi in a new play, "Lombardi," which is scheduled to move to Broadway's Circle-in-the-Square Theatre in September. The drama, which is based on the biography of the coach, "When Pride Still Mattered," by David Maranis, also stars Judith Light (TV's "Who's the Boss?"), Keith Nobbs, Bill Dawes, Robert Christopher Riley and Chris Sullivan.

| UConn Social Work Alum Sworn in As the New Mayor of Hartford |
|
UConn School of Social Work alumnus Pedro E. Segarra (MSW '82, JD '85) was sworn in as the new Mayor of Hartford on Friday, June 25th. He took the oath of office minutes after the resignation of former Mayor Eddie Perez. Segarra, the former City Council President, will hold the mayor's seat until the next election in November 2011.

| UConn Alum Named President, CEO of Walmart U.S. |
|
UConn alum William S. Simon, who earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from UConn, was promoted to president and chief executive officer of Walmart U.S. on June 29. Simon, 50, earned a bachelor's degree in economics from UConn in 1981, and an MBA in 1988. He joined Walmart in 2006, and most recently held the position of chief operating officer.

| UConn Armed Forces Alumni Tailgate |
|
We invite all UConn alumni who have served or are serving in the military to a pre-game tailgate on Saturday, September 11, 2010. This game is being designated as Military Appreciation Day by UConn Athletics. The tented tailgate will begin at 9:30 AM and continue until 11 AM. Afterwards we will cheer on UConn as they take on Texas Southern at 12 Noon with a half-time show that will include a tribute-to-service by the UConn Marching Band with participation from Armed Forces Alumni tailgate attendees.

Homecoming 2010 is on Saturday, October 2nd! Come connect with alumni and friends at the UConn Alumni Association pre-game tailgate and Spirit Village as we celebrate the Homecoming football game between UConn and Vanderbilt outside of Gate C at Rentschler Field. Our tailgate menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, potato salad, cookies, and beverages (soda, water, beer, coffee, hot chocolate).
