Journalists' Group Recipient of Dodd Human Rights Prize

The fourth biennial Thomas J. Dodd Prize in International Justice and Human Rights was awarded to the Committee to Protect Journalists during a ceremony at the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center on Monday, Oct. 5.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1981 that promotes press freedom worldwide by defending the rights of journalists to report the news without fear of reprisal.

Joel Simon, executive director of CPJ, accepted the award on behalf of the organization. Featured speakers included Sen. Christopher J. Dodd; Marianne Pearl, wife of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl; and University President Michael Hogan.

Premiere of New History Channel Series Features UConn Faculty

A new program on the History Channel, called MysteryQuest, dispatches teams of experts around the world to try to solve "some of mankind's strangest and most persistent mysteries." The premiere episode Sept. 16 - "Hitler's Escape" - featured three UConn faculty: Nicholas Bellantoni, Linda Strausbaugh, and Dawn Pettinelli. Together they investigated what became of Adolf Hitler's remains in the days, months, and years after the end of World War II. Read More

UConn Foundation launches capital campaign

On September 25-26, 2009, the UConn Foundation launched Our University. Our Moment. The Campaign for UConn. The kick-off started on Friday with simultaneous ice cream socials in Storrs and in Farmington, and concluded with an on-field presentation during the UConn/URI football game. Read More

New game day program, "Husky Honor", introduced to UConn fans

The University of Connecticut has instituted a new game day environment and sportsmanship program at its athletic events this year called "Husky Honor." Read More

"Too Big To Fail? Perspectives on Government Intervention During Economic Collapse"

A UConn School of Business SS&C Technologies Financial Accelerator Event

While the economy shows glimmers of recovery despite dismal unemployment rates and historically low real estate values, the verdict on the Bush and Obama Administrations' drastic measures to halt the economic crisis is still not in. Tom McInerney, ING Chairman & CEO Insurance Americas and appointed member of the Management Board Insurance in 2009 and Tom Woods, New York Times Bestselling Author of Meltdown, will discuss the recent bailouts of big companies during a panel at the University of Connecticut's Graduate Business Learning Center in Hartford.

The event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the UConn Graduate Business Learning Center, 100 Constitution Plaza, Hartford. It will begin at 5:30, p.m. with networking, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres. The presentation and Q&A will follow at 6:30 p.m.
