is now.

Beginning this month on our Web site, UConnAlumni.com, we invite you to meet the 10 candidates who are vying for six spots on the UConn Alumni Association Board of Directors. Thorough bios are set up for you to find out more about the candidates.

All Alumni Association members will receive a copy of MemberExtra, which contains a ballot for this year's election. All regular members* of the Alumni Association as of March 31, 2009, are eligible to vote in this year's election, and all ballots are due to the Alumni Association no later than Saturday, May 23.

The nominees, all graduates of UConn, represent a wide range of backgrounds. Each also has an unwavering desire to help your UConn Alumni Association be a better organization for you.

Not a member? Join the Alumni Association by March 31, 2009 to be eligible to vote in this year's election. One of the most important benefits to becoming a regular member* of the Alumni Association is the ability to use your voice by voting in this important election.

David Leeming: Presenting
James Baldwin
U-Awards
James Baldwin was one of the great American writers of the 20th Century. "Angry, provocative, courageous," "complex, troubled, brilliant," he wrote eloquently about issues of race and sex that remain vitally relevant today. His novels, such as Go Tell It on the Mountain and Giovanni's Room ... His stories, such as "Previous Condition" and "Sonny's Blues," and his essays collected in such volumes as Notes of a Native Son and The Fire Next Time are read and taught around the world. Literary scholar David Leeming, retired Professor of English at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, will hold a presentation from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 in the Multipurpose Room on the UConn-Waterbury campus.
