Join in the Discussion and Let Your Voice Be Heard!

The University of Connecticut is hosting a day-long event on the 2008 race for president. You are invited to hear from UConn faculty experts, media commentators and offer your opinion on the election!

WHEN: Monday, October 20, 2008 – 9:00am to 2:30pm
WHERE: Konover Auditorium – Dodd Center

The university will also be releasing the results of a scientific public opinion poll of UConn undergraduates from all campuses on their choice for president and the issues important to them.

Four hour-long panels will feature discussion among panelists then questions and comments from the audience:

  • 9:00 - Foreign Policy: the critical issues facing the next president and how McCain and Obama would likely address them
  • 10:10 - The Groundbreaking Election: the impact of race, gender and age on the presidential race
  • 11:15 - The Media: fairness and bias in campaign coverage; media coverage as a campaign issue
  • 1:00 - Release of a public opinion poll of UConn undergraduates on the race for president and major issues in the election; 2nd poll on the highly competitive race for congress in Connecticut’s 4th congressional district
  • 1:30 - Public Opinion and the Electorate: what are the polls telling us, are they accurate, how are the candidates faring, what issues are important to young voters and will a large youth vote materialize? (to be recorded for broadcast on WNPR, CT Public Radio)
