Dr. Nancy Naples is the recipient of the UConn Alumni Association Faculty Excellence in Research Award (Humanities and Social Sciences) for her extensive contributions to the field of sociology. A professor of Women’s Studies and Sociology at the University of Connecticut, Naples is a prominent scholar specializing in gender; feminist theory; the intersectionality of race, class, and gender; community sociology; social movements; social policy; and qualitative methodology. She has published several books and peer-reviewed journal articles and has received nearly a half-million dollars in research grants, as well as important awards in the discipline and UConn’s Provost’s Research Fellowship Award in 2005-2006. She devotes her time not only to research but to her students as well, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in the Sociology and Women’s Studies programs. She also serves as the President-Elect of the Society for the Study of Social Problems and has served as President and Vice President of Sociologists for Women in Society.
